Version: Version 1
Prepared for: South Galway Stormers Basketball Club
Version date: 14 July 2026
Review cycle: Annual or sooner if Basketball Ireland/Sport Ireland guidance changes
1. Purpose
This policy sets out how South Galway Stormers Basketball Club manages fundraising, donations, grants and sponsorship in a transparent and responsible way.
2. Fundraising Objectives
Fundraising should support the Club's charitable/community sporting purposes, including player development, facilities, equipment, coach education, access support, events, club operations and the long-term goal of a proper home for basketball in South Galway.
3. Approval
Fundraising events, sponsorship approaches, raffles, grant applications and major campaigns should be approved by the Committee or a delegated fundraising committee before launch. Fundraising and sponsorship enquiries should be sent to the Volunteer/Fundraising Lead (volunteer.sgsbc@gmail.com).
4. Fundraising Committee
The Committee may establish a fundraising committee to plan campaigns, coordinate volunteers, approach sponsors, maintain records and report progress to the Club Committee.
5. Financial Controls
Income and expenditure should be recorded by the Treasurer (treasurer.sgsbc@gmail.com).
Cash should be counted by two adults where practical.
Payments should follow Club financial controls.
Restricted donations or grants must be used for the purpose communicated.
Receipts, invoices and grant evidence should be retained.
6. Sponsorship Principles
Sponsors should align with the Club's values and the welfare of children. The Club may refuse sponsorship that conflicts with youth sport, safeguarding, inclusivity, health, community standards or Basketball Ireland requirements.
7. Sponsor Benefits
Sponsor benefits may include logo placement, website recognition, social media thanks, signage, kit branding or event acknowledgement, subject to Committee approval, sponsor agreement and relevant rules.
8. Conflicts of Interest
Committee members and volunteers must declare any personal or business interest in sponsorship or supplier decisions. The Committee should record how conflicts are managed.
9. Communications
Fundraising communications should be honest, accurate and clear about what funds will support. If a campaign is for facilities or a specific project, that purpose should be stated.
10. Review and Reporting
The Treasurer (treasurer.sgsbc@gmail.com) or Volunteer/Fundraising Lead (volunteer.sgsbc@gmail.com) should report fundraising income and spending to the Committee. A summary may be shared with members at the AGM or through club updates.
