1. Purpose
Parents and guardians play a vital role in creating a positive sporting experience. This Code sets out the standards expected from parents and guardians connected to South Galway Stormers Basketball Club.
2. Parent / Guardian Commitments
As a parent or guardian, I agree to:
Encourage my child and all players in a positive and respectful way.
Respect coaches, officials, table officials, volunteers, opponents and other parents.
Avoid coaching from the sideline in a way that confuses or pressures players.
Accept that referees and table officials may make mistakes and must not be abused.
Support the Club by communicating availability, fees, kit needs and concerns promptly.
Raise issues through the correct channels and not through sideline confrontation or social media.
Respect safeguarding boundaries, changing areas and coach instructions.
Never use discriminatory, threatening, bullying or abusive language.
Help the team and club where possible through table duties, team management, fundraising or volunteering.
3. Communication Expectations
Parents should communicate respectfully with coaches and team managers. General team manager or coach contact may be routed through the Club Registrar (registrar.sgsbc@gmail.com). Concerns about safety or welfare should be raised immediately. Concerns about playing time, selection or coaching decisions should not be raised during or immediately after a match unless there is an urgent welfare issue.
4. Match-Day Expectations
Ensure players arrive on time with correct kit, water and any required items.
Support all players, not only your own child.
Remain outside the playing area unless asked to assist.
Help with table duties or supervision where requested.
Respect venue rules and leave facilities clean.
5. Social Media and Messaging
Parents must not post photos, videos or comments that embarrass, identify or criticise children, coaches, officials or other clubs. Team messaging groups should be used for practical team communication only.
6. Breaches of the Code
The Club may address breaches through informal discussion, written warning, removal from sideline areas, suspension from club activity, referral to the Committee, or escalation to Basketball Ireland or statutory authorities where appropriate.
7. Acknowledgement
