1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct sets out the behaviour expected of all players representing South Galway Stormers Basketball Club at training, matches, events, camps, travel, online activity and any club-related setting.
2. Player Commitments
As a South Galway Stormers Basketball Club player, I agree to:
Respect my coaches, teammates, opponents, officials, parents, volunteers and facilities.
Listen when coaches or officials are speaking.
Try my best, work hard and support my teammates.
Play by the rules and accept referee and table official decisions.
Never bully, threaten, insult, exclude, mock or intimidate another person.
Use respectful language and avoid swearing, abusive comments or discriminatory remarks.
Tell a trusted adult if I feel unsafe, worried, bullied or uncomfortable.
Take care of club kit, equipment and venues.
Use phones and social media responsibly and never post hurtful or embarrassing content about another player, coach, official or club.
3. Match-Day Behaviour
Arrive on time and prepared with correct kit, water and any required equipment.
Shake hands or acknowledge opponents and officials appropriately.
Encourage teammates whether winning or losing.
Stay with the team unless released by the coach or responsible adult.
Represent the Club positively before, during and after the game.
4. Training Behaviour
Bring a positive attitude.
Avoid disrupting drills, queues or team talks.
Respect different ability levels and help newer players feel welcome.
Ask questions respectfully when I do not understand.
5. Development Teams
For Cubs and Academy players, the focus is on learning, movement, confidence and fun. Players are expected to listen, share, take turns and treat others kindly.
6. Competitive Teams
For competitive teams, players are expected to show commitment, attend regularly, communicate availability, work on skills and accept coaching decisions about roles, rotations and playing time.
7. Breaches of the Code
Where a player does not follow this Code, the coach or Club may take action. This may include a conversation with the player, contact with parents/guardians, temporary removal from an activity, suspension from matches, referral to the Committee or safeguarding process, or other action depending on the seriousness of the matter.
8. Player Acknowledgement
I understand that being part of South Galway Stormers Basketball Club is a privilege and that my behaviour affects my teammates, coaches, family and club.
